In this episode, we cook our family’s chili beans – with meat!
First, you sauté your diced onions in some oil or butter. Once they are soft, you add in the meat of your choice (we’ve even done shredded meat before). Add in your seasonings: we do salt, pepper, dash of cumin, and a shake of tarragon. Drain any excess fat/oil, then, add in a drained can of kidney beans. Let them cook for a few minutes with the meat before adding in the rest of your ingredients – you can change up the beans if you want or put in peas instead of corn or not put in corn at all. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes. Enjoy!
You could do this in the crockpot as well and let the flavors develop over the day. It also tastes great when reheated!
If you tried it, what did you think?! What changes would you make for your family?
